a powerful and poignant Civil War-era song by George Root,
arranged by Ben for Hal Holbrook's appearance with the Des
Moines Choral Society, "The Battle Cry of Freedom: Iowa
in the Civil War." Loved ones gather to remember a fallen
son. This is a very moving setting for SSAATTBB choir, piano
and trumpet. The trumpet weaves “Taps” into the
interludes between verses.
OPTIONS: Add violin and snare drum, or full bluegrass
band instrumentation (violin, mandolin, accordion, banjo,
guitar, bass), plus percussion.
